Hey Berklee!

The blog has been on a bit of a standstill since May, but the LiveWell staff has been working hard behind the scenes to bring you a variety of fun and healthy activities for the rest of the summer!

To all of our 5-week attendees: Welcome! We are so excited to have you. Keep checking back here during your stay and stay updated on current LiveWell events.

Below are the current events offered by LiveWell. Join us for meditation, yoga, zumba, or more! There is no attendance limit. Come as often as you'd like.

Fitness:

Improve Your Breath, Balance and Body - Fitness Workout - In The Loft

Saturdays, 9:30am – 10:30pm Dates: July 13 – August 10

Instructor: Joyce Lucia, Voice Faculty, Fitness Trainer, Yoga Instructor

Class Description: Musicians of all ages can benefit from participating an hour workout like this. The program incorporates a core workout, breath exercises perfect any vocalist or instrumentalist, and a routine to improve one’s balance.

Yoga Classes - In the Loft

Saturdays, 11am – 12:30pm Dates: July 13 – August 10

Instructor: Sagit Zilberman, Yoga Instructor

Class Description: This class taught by Berklee alum saxophonist Sagit Zilberman stems from Hatha-Yoga, Iyengar Yoga, Martial Arts training exercises. Attention is placed on body' alignment, breathing, and movement. The goal of this class is to help the student build an active dialogue between one’s mind and body. Yoga is known to reduce stress, enhance fitness, and promote mental clarity.




Mondays, 6:15 – 7:45 pm - “Flow Yoga” Dates: July 15 – August 5

Instructor: Neil Sullivan, Yoga Instructor

Class Description: Taught by exercise physiologist and Yoga teacher Neil Sullivan, whose teaching style is informed by both the Iyengar and Ashtanga methods, Flow Yoga is designed to build strength and flexibility along with balance, concentration and mental clarity. This class offers an intentional progression of clear intelligent sequences with precise alignments and an attention to the breath, while generating heat and focusing the mind.

Neil blends the teaching of detailed alignment, breath and movement in a class carefully designed for beginning and intermediate students to deepen your understanding and experience of Yoga. Move with focus and intention, and return to your day outside the classroom calm, focused and centered both mentally and physically.

Instructor: Amy Israels, Yoga Instructor

Class Description: Amy’s style is influenced by the Kripalu, Hatha Power Yoga, and Kundalini traditions. Emphasis is on breath work and movement. The goal of the class is to get in touch with a deeper part of oneself. As musicians, strengthening the body and mind together in this way can enrich practice and performance habits. Other benefits include a boost in self- confidence, joy, and peaceful attitude.

ZUMBA DANCE FITNESS - In The Loft

Mondays, 8:15pm – 10:00pm - “ZUMBA” Dates: July 15 – August 5

Instructor: Nicole Poulter, Zumba Instructor

Class Description: Zumba is a fitness class that combines Latin dancing with interval and resistance training for a full-body, rhythmic workout. Zumba classes create a party like atmosphere where people can have fun with their friends, while learning easy dance moves to Latin and International music! It's the fun way to work out!

MEDITATION SESSIONS: Secrets of Meditation – In The Loft

Mondays, 5:15 – 6pm Dates: July 15 – August 5

Instructor: Jane Stachowiak, M.Ed

Class Description: Each session will allow participants to explore techniques that helps one to awaken to new possibilities, be aware of the one-ness, and realize the benefits of Meditation



Meditation with Music

KIRTANS (Meditation with Music) - In The Loft

Thursdays, July 12 and August 1; 7:30pm – 9:30pm

Leaders: Richard Davis and Jerry Leake, Faculty

Description: Kirtan, is the singing of sacred mantras, accompanied by classical Indian instruments and some Western instruments (such as the guitar, flute, violin, saxophone). It is a call-and-response style of singing which involves the audience in the performance. The leader sings one line or verse and the guests chant in response. It is an ancient and well-known art to calm the mind, open the heart and connect with the Divine Consciousness. It is a culture where everybody can take place and make their own spiritual experience.

Great Stretches = Great Practices = Great Performances - in The Loft

Tuesday, July 9, 6-8pm (instrumentalists 6-7pm; vocalists 7-8pm)

Presentor: Regina Campbell, Physical Therapist, Performing Arts Physical Therapy

Learning and doing the right stretches and warm up are important practices to instrumentalists and vocalists. Which are the best stretches for you to do? Find out the best warm ups for you whether you are a violinist, trumpeter, bassist, drummer, guitarist, vocalist, pianist, string player, wind player, brass player, percussionist, harpist, etc. Does something hurts when you play? Come and Ask Regina.



Your Body Is Your Instrument - in The Loft

Presentor: John Bondlow, L.M.T., Certified Corrective Exercise Instructor, Fitness Trainer

We tune our instruments all the time. How about your body? What is the best way to get your body in tune? Develop awareness of your body and how it works? This a great opportunity to address any soreness, hurting and pain that occurs when you play. But if nothing hurts, come anyway and develop good habits to keep your body at its best.
