Below are a few words from Jane Stachowiak, your Berklee LiveWell Director:

Dear Friends,

As we start this week after a week we will never forget, I am reminded that today is Earth Day.

Earth Day brought awareness to the world about the Environment (one of our wellness dimensions). The environment is part of each of us and you are part of the environment. We are connected and intermingled with our land, water and air. We are connected and intermingled with animals, birds, fish, bacteria and of course, people. Besides the scientific reasons to be connected, as a people we have a social and emotional reasons to be a community.

Our community was challenged in so many ways last week but we heard a new word in our vocabulary, Boston Strong. We learned to live through this together because alone would be too scary.

Over the weekend I shared this message on
[Facebook] from Mister Rogers (Fred Rogers): When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, 'Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.'

Helping makes us strong, choosing to look for the helpers makes us strong, to see helpers and not be helplessness makes us strong, and being the helper generates great strength not only within but to others. It is a lovely interlocking of the circle of strength and helping.

Our "BerkleeStrong" community benefits from LiveWell's help. LiveWell is your office, your ideas, and your programs dedicated to helping the student musician to optimize their wellness. You inform your fellow students. You inspire your fellow students.

Each of you have learned that Wellness is an active process that allows people to make positive choices in creating and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. It includes a positive approach to life and health that helps to maximize the individual's potential. A personal wellness lifestyle is associated with good physical health, emotional and spiritual stability, improved personal relationships, as well as increased satisfaction and joy.

Keep helping and keep making BerkleeStrong.

Thank you so much for what you do.

With a Big Hug, Jane

As we return to classes this week, carrying the post traumatic stress from last week's tragic events, Let the Sunshine In.

Take care of yourself, take care of your loved ones, and take care of this wonderful planet.

The infographics below provide incredibly relevant information and tips to spread awareness about our earth's resources and what we can do to help give back to Mother Nature.

How will you celebrate Earth Day this week and beyond? We'd love to hear from you!
